December 15th, 2011 | DIY cupcake bath bombs

Well folks, today is national cupcake day! And what’s the only thing better than edible cupcakes? Cute little bath fizzies that look like cupcakes!

These are surprisingly easy to make, and a great gift idea! They were fairly cost effective to make as well, it worked out to be just under 2$ per bath bomb. Here’s what you’ll need:

♥ 1c citric acid
♥ 2c baking soda
♥ witch hazel (in a spray bottle)
♥ 1tsp olive or grapeseed oil
♥ fragrance
♥ colouring
♥ cupcake liners
♥ 1/4tsp cream of tartar
♥ 1lb icing sugar
♥ 3tbsp meringue powder

♥ In a large bowl, mix together the baking soda, citric acid and oil. Add a few drops of color and fragrance oil of your choice and mix by hand while spraying the mixture lightly with witch hazel. Keep in mind that water is what makes the bombs react, so try not to get them too wet.

♥ Once you’re happy with the mix, it’s time to fill the liners! If you don’t have silicon cupcake molds, use a bottle cap to hold the shape of the bottom of the liner. Pat the mixture in as much as you can.

♥ I then placed the cupcake bottoms then into a small cupcake tray until they hardened to help keep the shape

♥ You’ll need either an electric or hand mixer for this part. In a large mixing bowl mix together the sugar, meringue powder, and cream of tartar. Add color and fragrance oil if you’d like. Using a ziplock bag or icing bag and the icing tip of your choice, ice and decorate the cupcakes.

♥ Leave them out for at least 24 hours to harden before packaging.

July 15th, 2011 | Luxe Box June Review

Hey everyone! So the month is up, so its time for my review of my first Luxe Box from Loose Button!

I *love* the packaging. It’s so cute & it really made me happy to see them put time into packaging the items so nicely. It just warmed my little heart & made me fall inlove with the whole program! (Yup, that’s the design nerd poking out)

Please excuse my super chipped nail polish ;)

China Glaze Ink nail polish (retail $7), Laura Mercier eye shadow (retail $22), and Dermalogica daily microfoliant (retail $72).

Since it was their first one, we also received a really tasty chocolate (which I used to make a s’moore ;D). It’s not in the photo because well, it was in my belly.

China Glaze Nail Polish: I love this! I received it in black. It has a fine tip so its great for detailed work & designs. It makes doing designs SO much easier (no more toothpicks!) I’m totally going to be buying this in more colours.

Laura Mercier Eyeshadow: I also loved this product. I received it in a really pretty pale nude colour that has a bit of a shimmer too it. It feels really lightweight & nice when its on. It’s great as a highlighter, and it also layers nicely well also so you can get full coverage to be used as a shadow. I’m determined to find more products by them, I was really impressed with the quality.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant: At first, I loved this product. It made my skin feel great after use. I could really feel it getting into the pores and cleaning them out. However, after a few days of use I started to break out  so I stopped using this product. I may test it out again, but I wasn’t too impressed. I have really sensitive skin so I feel like this product just might have not been for me. I’ll probably give it to a friend who has less sensitive skin.

So far I love the program, I received my July box today and am super excited about all the products in it. I am definitely going to be signing up again in September when my current subscription runs out. Its really fun & exciting to look forward to a package every month of exciting new products.

May 11th, 2010 | Zoya’s Earth Day Present To You!

Just when you thought that Zoya’s products couldn’t get any greener! (Okay, I admit it.. this is going to be a girly moment.) For those of you who may not know who, or what, Zoya is, it’s a long lasting vegan nail polish. (Still don’t know what that means? Basically its rid of all those evil toxins that are in regular polishes, its all natural baby! And, its safe for use even if your pregnant!) I love, love, love their products, they’re eco-friendly and affordable.

Anyways! In spirit of Earth day, if you’re a US resident they have a really sweat deal that ends on June 30th. All you have to do is send 6 bottles (or more) of your old, toxic nail polish that you don’t like or use any more and they will dispose of them properly in a hazardous waste facility. (Bet you didn’t know you couldn’t just throw that stuff out!) In return, they will send you the same amount of bottles of their eco-friendly polishes in in whatever colours you’d like, and the only thing you have to pay for is the $3.50 shipping/handling charge. Its a great deal, and its less than half the amount of the regular price of a bottle!
