May 27th, 2011 | The Sketchbook Project 2012

(photo via: http://katenyland.blogspot.com/)

So, last year I signed up for the 2011 project. I won’t lie, I didn’t finish my book in time and wasn’t happy with what I had done to send it in. It was still fun though, so I don’t consider it a waste of money.

This year, I thought I’d give it a second go. I was a little hesitant at first but the tour is coming to Canada this year and making a stop in Toronto. Last year all the locations for the tour were only in the states. I made a rule I’m going to actually schedule time once a week to sit down with my book and work on it.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Sketchbook Project, it’s basically a concert tour. But with sketchbooks. Anyone can sign up, (it costs 25$) and fill their sketchbook with your creative goodies. When it’s completed, you send it back (no later than January 31st) and it makes it’s way around the world with hundreds of other sketchbooks to museums & libraries!

However won’t ever get it back, it’s final resting place is the Brooklyn Library of Art. You can opt to pay an extra 20$ for your book to be digitally displayed in the online exhibit. (Or you could just, yknow scan it yourself..) The theme I picked this year was “Fill me with stories”. Wish me luck!

The sketchbook I never finished ;(

Oh my gosh, I’m so jealous that you finished it! Did you get yours digitalized? I’d love to see some of your work if you did :)

It was tough. I signed up for it late. At least now I signed up first round & have tons of time! Really hoping I complete it this time.

Good luck filling out your sketchbook! Since learning about the project, I too have umm’ed and ahh’ed about participating. Alas, I don’t think I would be able to do the project justice – I have other projects I want to do and have learned not to take on more than I can chew. That 30 day journal challenge looks more like my kind of thing!

I’m hoping I can somehow tie the two together! I’m also going to try to make sure I draw one thing once a week min. I’m sure the local stop will help keep me motivated too

I agree! You can pay the extra $25 at any time, so I’m going to try scanning them all myself first. If all fails, I’ll pay the extra 25. :)

Looking forward to seeing the finished product! (I received my sketchbook a few weeks ago and am saving it for my summer project — am also hoping that by September it hasn’t morphed into my “fall” project!) Good luck from a fellow Torontonian … :)

      Good luck to you too!!
I’ve told myself I have to work on it atleast one day a week, and am really hopping I can stick to that!! Going to have to mark on my calendars scheduled time to work on it. Send me your info when you finish it! I’d love to look it up & see it in person when they’re in Toronto next year :)

I totally understand how you can run out of time in the project like this! They had a similar project with disposable cameras that my husband signed up for…the deadline is fast approaching and he has barely used any of his exposures!

Good luck this time around! I will go back to see your finished book myself in Brooklyn :)

Oh wow!! Do you remember what that one was called? That sounds so neat!!! My family is filled with photography & blogging nuts so I’m sure they’d love to do that one.

I think I’ll do better this time around, the sketchbook this year is much smaller. :)
