February 27th, 2011 | Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover

I’m a horrible person for this. Maybe it’s the designer & typography nerd inside of me, but I tend to pick books based on the cover. Now don’t get me wrong, after initially being drawn to the book by the cover design I do read the back and that does come into my judgement as well… but often unless I have a book recommendation or I read about the book in a magazine I won’t investigate it myself unless it has a cover that appeals to me. So, recommend some for me! What’s a good book you’ve read recently?

Here are some of my favourite cover designs of books I’ve read, or want to read. I’m currently finishing up Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. Also feel free to add me as a friend on Good Reads!

The marketing person in me says “YUP So True!!” But like first impressions we have to peak past the face to see the real deal.

I find it impossible to not be a cover judge as well! I’m not too embarrassed to admit it though, it’s totally the design nerd in me. Of course, it doesn’t mean I won’t read a poorly covered book; I’ll just be thinking about the crappy cover the whole time ;)

haha not going to lie, i do the same thing as well. i just recently finished “house of leaves.” i know it is a pretty old book by now, but if you haven’t read it yet, i definitely suggest it!

Totally guilty. Although, I find more often than not I pick up a book because of the title/cover, and end up being sorely disappointed either by a) the description or b) the author’s style of writing. This would be why it took me over an hour to pick a book to read at the airport today!!

I am always picking books by the cover! So glad to know I am not the only one breaking the oldest rule in the book!
